Position: Facade Designer – Glass & Aluminium

Department: Facade Engineering & Design (Projects)

Reports To: Facade Project Head

Location: Dubai, UAE (office-based, with site visits)

Employment: Full-time, permanent

Experience: 5–10 years in facade design, minimum 3 years in UAE / GCC

Joining: Immediate to 30 days

Salary: AED 8,000 – 10,000 per month, based on experience

Role Summary-

Prepare buildable, code-compliant shop drawings and details for aluminium and glass facade packages on high-rise and mid-rise projects, from tender stage to as-built, working with the Facade Project Head, engineering, procurement, factory and site teams.

Scope of Work

Unitized and stick curtain wall, structural glazing, ACP and metal cladding, aluminium windows and doors, glass balustrades, skylights, louvres, and perforated mesh screens.

Key Responsibilities

• Review tender and IFC drawings, specifications and BOQs; raise design gaps and clashes with the consultant.
• Prepare facade shop drawings: plans, elevations, sections, typical and special details, anchor layouts and fabrication drawings.
• Develop unit and panel layouts, mullion and transom grids, setting-out and movement-joint details.
• Coordinate with structural, MEP, architectural and waterproofing teams to resolve interfaces.
• Support design calculations (wind load, deflection, glass thickness) and apply results in drawings.
• Select profiles, glass build-ups, gaskets, sealants and hardware as per specification and approved submittals.
• Prepare drawing registers, material submittals and technical submissions; close consultant comments and revisions on time.
• Prepare material take-offs and cutting lists; support procurement and the factory with fabrication details.
• Support mock-ups, performance testing and site queries; prepare as-built drawings and handover documents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil / Mechanical / Architectural Engineering or Architectural Technology.
• Proven curtain wall and cladding design experience on high-rise or large commercial projects in the UAE.
• Working knowledge of Dubai Municipality, Dubai Civil Defence and Trakhees / DDA submission requirements.

Technical Skills

• Shop drawing and detailing for unitized and stick curtain wall, cladding, windows and structural glazing.
• Aluminium extrusion systems, thermal breaks, finishes and system suppliers (Technal, Schüco, Reynaers, Alumil).
• Laminated, tempered, heat-strengthened, insulated and low-E glass; brackets, anchors, sealants and fire stopping.
• Basic knowledge of wind load, thermal and acoustic performance, and air / water / structural testing.
• Standards: Dubai Building Code, Civil Defence code, ASTM, EN, AAMA and CWCT.

Software

Mandatory: AutoCAD (expert), MS Office. Preferred: Revit / BIM. Added advantage: SketchUp, Rhino, Inventor, SolidWorks, Strand7.
