Manager Technical, Refrigeration & HVAC

Job Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing all refrigeration and air-conditioning systems

across SPAR stores in Nigeria, ensuring operational efficiency, safety compliance, energy

optimization, and minimal downtime.

1. Lead installation, commissioning, and preventive maintenance of refrigeration systems (Cold

rooms, Freezers, Chillers, Display Cases).

2. Supervise HVAC systems related to store cooling and ventilation.
3. Monitor temperature integrity of Fresh, Butchery, Bakery, and Frozen departments.
4. Conduct root cause analysis on repeated refrigeration failures.
5. Ensure compliance with food safety standards and cold chain management.
6. Manage refrigerant gas charging, leak detection, and environmental compliance.
7. Review and approve corrective maintenance reports on AppSheet/maintenance platforms.
8. Guide Mid-Level R & A Specialists and Technicians.
9. Coordinate with vendors for major repairs and system upgrades.
10. Ensure energy-efficient operation of compressors, evaporators, condensers.
11. Prepare monthly technical performance reports.
12. Maintain inventory of critical spare parts and consumables.
13. Advise management on equipment replacement and CAPEX planning.
14. Ensure all safety standards are adhered to during repairs.
15. Participate in new store fit-outs and refrigeration design review.

Requirement

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.

2. 12 to 15 years of relevant work experience, in commercial refrigeration (Retail/Hypermarket

experience will be a plus).

3. Advanced knowledge of cold room systems, multiplex rack systems, beverage coolers.
4. Strong understanding of refrigerants (R404A, R134a, R22 replacements, etc.).
5. Leadership and vendor management skills.
6. Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability.
7. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple locations.
