Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise-grade data architecture in a complex, distributed application environment.
- Define data flow, distribution models, database locations, and access methods.
- Develop technology-agnostic Conceptual and Logical Data Models (CDM/LDM) and support prototype development.
- Contribute to data migration strategies and planning activities.
- Support Alpha prototyping and Proofs-of-Concept (POCs) based on CDM recommendations.
- Assist in preparing enterprise architecture artefacts for submission to the Architecture Review Board (AGP0 – Summer 2025, AGP1 – Fall/Winter 2025).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a standard business vocabulary and align data architecture with enterprise strategies.
- Monitor and enforce data modeling standards and quality across conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
Must-Have Skills (50%)
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture and data modeling in large/complex environments
- Proficiency with modeling tools (e.g., ERWIN, Visio, PowerDesigner)
- Experience with structured methodologies for application design, development, and implementation
- Experience with multiple database technologies, platforms, operating systems, and communication protocols
- Knowledge of metadata structures, data dictionaries, and repository functions
- Demonstrated experience in CASE tools and data modeling standards enforcement
- Familiarity with performance considerations across various database designs and environments
- Strong systems analysis, documentation, and data normalization skills
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality enterprise architecture deliverables
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and collaboration skills
Desirable Skills (30%)
- Experience designing automated data distribution mechanisms and middleware/gateway solutions
- Knowledge of object-oriented analysis and design techniques
- Experience integrating dimensional and relational data models across systems
- Familiarity with information management principles, policies, and best practices
- Experience creating reusable data standards and reviewing data models for quality/adherence
- Awareness of emerging IT trends and technologies relevant to data modeling and architecture
Communication & Soft Skills (15%)
- Excellent communication (verbal/written) and presentation skills
- Ability to present technical findings, options, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborative team player with a strong record of client engagement and relationship management
- Self-starter with a proactive mindset and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Experience in project triage/rescue situations is a strong asset
Public Sector Experience (5%)
- Previous work in government or broader public sector environments
- Experience with the Ontario Design System and knowledge of Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture frameworks
- Ability to develop EA deliverables in alignment with Ontario’s architecture review processes
